What to Expect in Your First Session of Psychotherapy

So you’ve made the plunge to try psychotherapy. What should you expect from your first session with the therapist?

First, don’t be scared. Although making the decision to enter therapy can be difficult, there is nothing to be afraid of. You’re in the hands of a professional who’s done this many times before, who will do their best to put you at ease. A good therapist will also take some time to orient you to therapy, and what exactly to expect in therapy with them.

Ask the Therapists Marie Hartwell-Walker, Ed.D. and Daniel J. Tomasulo, Ph.D., TEP, MFA talk a few minutes about what to expect in your first session of psychotherapy (or counseling, or talk therapy).
