Advanced Membrane Technology III: Membrane engineering for process intensification

Advanced membrane technology

The conference will address the progress in membrane engineering and its strong relation with the process intensification strategy. Topics such as integrated membrane operations; new membrane operations such as membrane contactors and catalytic membrane reactors will be featured and industrial contributions will be emphasized. In addition, water desalination, exergetic analysis of membrane operations and of integrated processes will be also covered. There will be discussion on the existing limits of membrane engineering and future possible developments in new non-traditional areas interfacing electronics, medicine, etc.

The conference chair is Professor Enrico Drioli (Institute on Membrane Technology (ITM-CNR), University of Calabria.

The Scientific committee has the following members: Enrico Drioli (Italy), Pierre Aimar (France), Giuseppe Barbieri (Italy), Rune Bredesen (Norway), May Britt-Hagg (Norway), Tony Fane (Australia), Benny Freeman (USA), Rafiqul Gani (Denmark), Lidietta Giorno (Italy), Dieter Hofmann (Germany), Gunnar Jonsson (Sweden), Bill Koros (USA), Kew-Ho Lee (Korea), Runyu Ma (China), Don Paul (USA), Gerard Pourcelly (France), Gilbert Rios (France), Jesus Santamaria (Spain), Andrzej Stankiewicz (Netherlands), Doros Theodoru (Greece), Gun Tragardh (Sweden), and Matthias Wessling (Netherlands).

The local organizing committee, Enrico Drioli, The University of Calabria and ITM-CNR (Italy), Giuseppe Barbieri, ITM-CNR (Italy), Mariella Liberti, ITM-CNR (Italy), Alessandra Criscuoli, ITM-CNR (Italy), Francesco Scura, The University of Calabria and ITM-CNR (Italy), Adele Brunetti, The University of Calabria and ITM-CNR (Italy)

Technical Program

Scientific sessions are planned for the following topics:

  • Membrane Engineering for Process Intensification
  • Catalytic Membranes and Membrane Reactors
  • Membrane contactors (membrane distillation, membrane emulsification, liquid supported membranes, etc.)
  • Membrane engineering for regenerative medicine
  • Integrated and hybrid membrane operations
  • Membrane engineering in desalinization and water treatment
  • Membrane engineering and microelectronic membrane devices

Late Abstract Submission for Poster Presentation
Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for two poster sessions that form an integral part of the meeting. The deadline for submission is May 30, 2006.

Abstracts should be detailed (300 words) and should include specific results and conclusions to allow a scientific assessment of proposed poster presentation. Abstracts should be submitted electronically following the instructions given in On-line Abstract Submission. If unable to submit the abstract electronically, please contact the ECI ([email protected]).

Engineering Conferences International
Engineering Conferences International (ECI) is a global engineering conferences program, originally established in 1962, that provides opportunities for the exploration of problems and issues of concern to engineers and scientists from many disciplines. ECI is a not-for-profit partnership between the Engineering Conferences Foundation and Polytechnic University.

The format of the weeklong research conference provides morning and late afternoon or evening sessions in which major presentations are made. Available time is included during the afternoons for ad hoc meetings, informal discussions, and/or recreation. This format is designed to enhance rapport among participants and promote dialogue on the development of the meeting. We believe the conferences have been instrumental in generating ideas and disseminating information to a greater extent than is possible through more conventional forums.

All participants are expected both to attend the entire conference and to contribute actively to the discussions. The recording/photographing of lectures and presentations is forbidden. As ECI conferences take place in an informal atmosphere, casual clothing is the usual attire.
