Risa lives in central Connecticut with her husband and their daughter. She has lived in Boston and New York City and has an MSW from Fordham University and a BA from Columbia University. She was featured in Women's Health Magazine's May 2016 issue regarding mental health, was a panelist on AOL Build discussing the effects of stigma on those with mental illness and was featured in an episode of Dr. Oz discussing her success with ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). She has written for Huffington Post, Psych Central, Kveller, Keshet, The Mighty, Bring Change to Mind, Stigma Fighters and on her own blog, sillyillymama.blogspot.com.
