Guilt

Conflict and anxiety stemming from feelings of blameworthiness, either from doing something one believes is wrong, or refraining from doing something one believes one should have done.

Example: A man swerves to avoid killing a child in the road and cripples a bystander as a result; he blames himself despite having done his best to deal with the situation.
