Life in Balance?

Is your life in balance? By identifying stressors and associated feelings, evaluating lifestyle habits, engaging in relaxation activities, and monitoring self-care, balance is achievable.

Identify what your stressors are: work, relationships, juggling multiple demands, or a personal belief system. What is it that’s stressing you out? What can you change and what can you improve?

Identify how you feel. Often when asking how someone feels typically the response is “good” or “ok.” But what does that mean?

As a counselor I carry a feeling chart with me, to assist with identifying a feeling: happy, sad, embarrassed, angry, etc.

Check in with yourself, monitor your feelings, and look for correlations. Take a look at lifestyle habits. Monitor your exercise, eating habits, sleep patterns, and alcohol consumption. Even simple things like staying hydrated can improve bodily functions and thinking patterns.

Make time for self-care and relaxation. Take a walk, practice yoga, or engage in meditation. Find time to “just be.” Put your time for self-care on the calendar and make a date to improve your health.

Between work and personal obligations (i.e. children pets, and chores) it can often be a struggle to find balance. Creating balance in our daily lives, can ultimately lead to happiness and peace. Don’t wait for the weekend practice balance during the week too.

When the pressures high and my energy is low, it’s crucial I follow these simple fundamental steps. I work to find balance in an ever changing world.
