Hello. I’m a 16 year old girl who is having a really hard time.I had a pretty bad episode of depression in 2007 and since then I suffer from severe mood swings.I can be happy for a few minutes and totally depressed after some time and even when I’m happy it doesn’t last long as I start getting irritated because of the way I feel.I cry almost everyday(I’m most comfortable when I cry).I’ve tried to kill myself four times and sometimes overdose on drugs just to get sick.Others describe me as being cold and distant.I don’t have any friends and I get very uncomfortable when others try to get close to me but sometimes I wish I had someone to talk to.Sometimes I starve myself to lose weight then I binge and end up feeling like a loser.I hate going out and when I do,I start feeling bad about the way I look.I sometimes feel like hurting others.I get bored very easily.I love someone/something with all my heart (sometimes get obsessed with it),then start hating it for no particular reason at all.My self image keeps changing and I have no idea who or what I am.I ignore my parents and relatives and spend most of the time in front of the television.I don’t sleep at nigth and my grades are steadily falling.I can’t concentrate on anything and spend most of my time thinking how I’ll kill myself or someone else.Can you please tell me how to stop this as I’m pretty desperate and my parents refuse to take me to a doctor?What’s Really Wrong?

I am unfamiliar with the mental health services in your country. I believe you need help immediately. My biggest concern is that you’re thinking about killing yourself and you have attempted to end your life four times in the past. It is also concerning that you are having difficulty concentrating because you are focused on hurting or killing someone. This is a very serious situation.
If your parents refuse to assist you, then you need to take action to get help. This could include talking to other family members who may be willing to help you. It also may include going to an emergency room on your own and reporting what you are experiencing. If those are not options for you, then speak to somebody in your school. Tell them what you wrote in this letter. Tell them about the fact that you’re thinking about hurting yourself or someone else. You could try talking to a teacher, a nurse, the principal, the school guidance counselor, or any other adult within the school system.
Another consideration is to see your physician. In the United States, many people have access to primary care physicians. They are generalized practitioners who can deal with a variety of medical concerns. Many people go to these physicians with mental health concerns and are able to receive help. If that is an option for you in India, please consider it. Please ask for help immediately.
It is also important that you know that the issues you are struggling with can be helped with treatment. I understand that you have struggled and life has not been good for you lately but things can get better. With the right help and treatment your life can improve.
