I was on this medication for a very short time and it allowed me to focus better and relax. Since I've seen this, I'm thinking about speaking to my doctor about it again actually. I had not one side effect on the lowest dose.

Celexa has literally saved my life.... I was once a prisoner within the four walls of my house and was thinking about (had a date & plan) to end my life just prior to starting this medicine. I am presently taking 20 mg a day of Celexa for PMDD, Severe Mood Swings, Depression and an Anxiety Disorder. IMO - this medicine is a miracle drug.

Sorry, I couldn't say about price, once again I have a presciprion plan, it has been years since I was on Celexa, so I forgot what it would have cost.
Bottom line, if it were prescribed to me again, I'd have no qualms to re-start.

Increased mood, improved sleep, decreased constant brain activity especially at night

Negative aspects of this (cons):

None, except it eventually quit working for me
|

I'd been on this medication for years, tweaking the dose when needed - decreasing when feeling better, increasing when going through a rough spell. I thought it worked well for me until my doctor switched me to Lexapro and I saw how much better that worked. Due to cost, I went back to citalopram (generic Celexa) but found that it just didn't work as well after seeing how much better I felt on Lexapro.
Due to low side effect profile and low cost, I would definitely recommend this to someone on a tight budget who needs a calming antidepressant. A 90-day supply cost $33, 100% out-of-pocket, at two different pharmacies (a chain store and a locally-owned pharmacy).
This med caused no strange tics, sexual side effects, or weight loss/gain.

immediate reaction was to cause migraine pain

This medication was provided as samples & then again given in the hospital, so no information on price. Immediately after being given even a low dose of this med, migraine pain was experienced. Because my migraine pain is being controled using a high dose of narcotics, I wasn't willing to continue taking the celexa when migraine pain showed up after taking the med.

I like that it comes in generic. I was switched to 40 mg of Celexa from 200 mg of Zoloft and the fog lifted. I'm still depressed but symptoms are definitely less. I just upped to 50 mg so I'll come back and let you know if it works better then.

Positive aspects of this (pros):
|
helped me overcome severe agoraphobia, reduced panic attacks
|
|
Negative aspects of this (cons):
|
feeling of lethargy and inertia, weight gain
|
|
I had agoraphobia for over 3 years -- severe panic attacks if I stepped outside my front door. So, I stayed inside and only went out a couple of times per year -- for doctor's appointments.
Celexa (20 mg in combination with 0.5 mg Clonazepam per day and CBT) worked very well for me. Within 4 months of treatment, I was working full-time, leaving my house everyday. I credit this with helping me overcome my agoraphobia and living a full life again.
I weaned myself off Celexa after about 16 months and did fine without it. The positive effects and confidence I gained while taking it stayed with me.
The negative side effects were a feeling of inertia when I was home alone. I felt like I was a wind-up doll and needed someone external to turn the key to get me moving. I had been a neat freak, but while taking Celexa, my flat was a mess. I just couldn't make myself get up and do things. It also impaired my short-term memory. I gained 30 lbs. while taking it, but the weight fell off when I stopped taking Celexa. Overall, the negative side effects were outweighed by the positive effects. I credit Celexa with helping me regain my life.

May reduce emotional symptoms such as crying. Decreases appetite.
|
|
Negative aspects of this (cons):
|
De-personalisation, insomnia, switches off sex-drive, nausea, sweating, lack of concentration, no motivation.
|
|
I took this a few years ago, I (mistakenly) decided to try again, partly to aid weight loss. Then I realised why I stopped first time ! Please note this is just my personal reaction, it may suit others !
I felt nauseous and had heartburn, terrible hot flushing and sweating. I felt anxious, couldn't sleep, nightmares when I did. I lost interest in sex within 24 hours, anorgasmia, lack of feeling and emotion, extreme anger and aggression. Unable to and not wanting to do anything constructive, couldn't read a book. Mood swings, mainly negative with brief highs. The only use I can see for this medication is for example in a circumstance such as bereavement where it may be helpful to be switched off and on auto-pilot !

Antidepressant properties are solid. It works well.
I generally only get one side effect from antidepressants: no matter which one it is, if it demonstrates even the smallest possibility of causing sexual side effects then I'm going to be the person who has problems with it.
Catch 22.

WAY more energy
|
|
Negative aspects of this (cons):
|
triggered acute mania, insomnia, irritability, sexual problems.
|
|
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and GAD over a year ago, and I started taking this medicine to help with my depressive episodes and anxiety.
The problem is that Celexa caused me to have an ACUTE manic episode. The initial waiting period for me didn't exist -- I felt its effects in less than a week.
The side effects it caused were numerous. The ones I remember the most were insomnia, irritability, and sexual problems (both significantly decreased libido and inability to orgasm).
This drug may work well for those with Major Depressive Disorder or anxiety problems, but if you have bipolar disorder, you should be cautious.

Was feeling great for a few months then had major melt down and went back on it. Currently off Celexa and back on prozac. Lost 34 lbs. and still losing. So now I am feeling more self confidence!!

Celexa has worked wonders for me. And even though it is not working as well for me now as it did, I am still no where near as depressed as I was before I started to take it. Unfortunately, I am stressed to the max at work, and that may be the real reason it doesn't seem to be working as well. I bet if I quit my job, I will feel much better!

This was the first anti-depressant I took and it was not a good choice for me. It made me suicidal, made me panic if I was by myself, and altered my personality somewhat. I have known people that this drug has helped, but it was not for me. If you feel any of the side effects I felt, please call your doctor ASAP and DO NOT let them give you a higher dose. A higher dose made things worse for me. It wasn't until I took this drug that I started having anxiety attacks. I'm not saying this drug altered my brain chemicals that much, but it's possible.

But it DID help.

This product may work for others, but my body told me right away after 4 days of taking it that it wasn't going to let me try it any longer. The side effects were unbearable, and the feeling of electrical shock went from head to toe. I felt like my anxiety went 10 times worse. Everyone is different as I cannot tolorate Celexa at all but I tolorate Zoloft side effect free. Major difference even though both are a form of SSRI.
