    About Methadone
    There are many fine sites on the internet that explain what methadone is, what it does, the drug's history and what it's used for. Methadone is a synthetic narcotic that is used primarily as a treatment for heroin and other opiate addiction, and has seen a resurgence in its use as a painkiller, primarily because it's cheap. As a treatment for opiate abuse, it has become known as "the gold standard" -- nothing keeps addicts away from street drugs better than methadone.
