Presentation of the first The Dr. Paul Janssen Award For Biomedical Research

Organized by Johnson & Johnson in honor of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Paul Janssen

Johnson & Johnson is pleased to invite you to Janssen Pharmaceutica for the presentation of the first The Dr. Paul Janssen Award for Biomedical Research. An international selection committee of prominent medical personalities including Sir Richard Sykes, Dr. Solomon Snyder, Dr. Edward Scolnick and Nobel Prize winners Dr. Arvid Carlsson, Dr. Jean-Marie Lehn and Dr. Harmut Michel, have spent the past year searching for a researcher whose work has made a groundbreaking contribution to medical progress.

On September 12, 2006, Mrs. Dora Janssen will present The Dr Paul Janssen Award for Biomedical Research to the inaugural winner at a scientific symposium and press conference in Beerse, Belgium. The winner's research is considered by many to be one of the biggest medical breakthroughs in recent years.

The press conference will be followed by a symposium where the winner's research subject will be discussed in more detail. On that same evening, there will be an award presentation ceremony. We would like to invite you to both events, and we would be pleased if you were able to attend. Details are enclosed.

For Johnson & Johnson, biomedical research is very important. The Dr. Paul Janssen Award for Biomedical Research is intended, in particular, to stimulate active researchers to reach new heights with their scientific work, just as Dr. Janssen, or "Dr. Paul" as he was known to many of his colleagues, had so often with his research.

September 12th also commemorates Dr. Paul's 80th birthday. Throughout the world, he is regarded as one of the most important pharmaceutical researchers and innovators. But outside the medical world, too, his work is highly valued, as was evidenced by his second place in the referendum that was held last year for the Greatest Belgian of All Time.
