Why: With 40 million infections worldwide and 14,000 new infections occurring each day, the AIDS pandemic continues to outpace the global effort at prevention and treatment, damaging societies and undermining social and economic progress in developing countries. The only hope to stop the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus is through the accelerated development of a vaccine.
Every two years, IAVI issues the AIDS Vaccine Blueprint, which reports on the state of the vaccine field and provides recommendations for accelerating the development of a vaccine.
