From 12-23 June the UK Government is hosting the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Edinburgh. This is the first time that this major international meeting has been held in the UK since 1977. Around 300 delegates from 45 countries are expected to attend the meeting to discuss a wide range of issues affecting Antarctica, including science, environmental protection, tourism, heritage and governance.
To celebrate the UK Government's hosting of the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and British Antarctic Survey are coordinating an exciting programme of public events – including three major exhibitions and four performances by scientists and filmmakers - in Edinburgh known as Discover Antarctica!
The briefing on Wednesday 24th May will include briefings by Paul Davies, Deputy Executive Secretary, Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting XXIX and Athena Dinar, Press Officer, British Antarctic Survey and will be of interest to Scottish media, news agencies, science/environment, political and arts correspondents.
