MOSCOW -- As Canada's representative to the G8 Energy Ministerial Meeting in Moscow, Russia, the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, highlighted Canada's progress in developing a strong framework to ensure energy security.

Minister Lunn highlighted Canada's positive experience as it has moved to a transparent and competitive market.

"Canada believes that secure energy supplies have an important role in global prosperity," he said. "Our market-based approach has resulted in tremendous economic and social opportunities in terms of prosperity, stability and security."

Minister Lunn also said that the Government of Canada is committed to facing the future challenges and opportunities in global energy security and sustainability with its G8 partners.

Minister Lunn joined with other G8 ministers for a private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

The G8 Energy Ministers heard statements from the International Energy Agency, the International Energy Forum, the World Bank and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Energy ministers from Mexico, India, China, Brazil and South Africa also outlined their perspectives.
