Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando has confessed he has been struggling with bipolar disorder for years. The singer of the modern remake of “Mrs. Robinson” was ‘outed’ by longtime pal Juliana Hatfield in an interview in the Sept. 2006 issue of Spin. Her comments prompted Dando to reveal his depression issues.
Hatfield told the magazine, “He’s chemically imbalanced. Seriously… He does things to excess sometimes. He’s self-medicating. It hasn’t been just one thing he’s struggled with; he’s struggling against his nature.”
Dando, who has reformed the Lemonheads for a new album and tour nine years after disbanding the group, admits to the magazine, “Sure, sure, I’ve been whatever it is, bipolar. At least that’s what my shrink says.”
U.K. model Sophie Anderton, who has beaten drug addiction and alcoholism, has also discussed the reasons behind her erratic behaviour and mood swings. She recently admitted to being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is characterized by periods of mania and depression.
Anderton is best known for her tearful tantrums and dramatic outbursts on the television show, Love Island.
Bipolar disorder often goes undiagnosed because of the stigma associated with mental disorder diagnoses. However, there are many effective treatments for bipolar disorder.
