Dyslexia

By Gillian Fournier

A learning disability characterized by difficulty in reading, spelling, and writing in individuals who have received adequate reading instruction and do not have hearing or vision problems. Dyslexia has been diagnosed in people of all levels of intelligence.

Example: A hardworking child does well in her math and gym classes, but poorly in history, English, and science. She reads far below grade level, and seems to have trouble putting letters in the right order on spelling tests.
