Akathisia

By Renée Grinnell

Unpleasant, uncomfortable muscular tension and restlessness, generally caused by medications such as neuroleptic antipsychotics. Also spelled “acathisia”.

Example: A schizophrenic man starts taking a neuroleptic. He soon begins restless pacing. When he’s seated, his legs continue to move.
