Overview

Viagra (Sildenafil) is used to treat erectile dysfunction and impotence in men. It works by relaxing muscles found in the walls of blood vessels and increasing blood flow to particular areas of the body. It increases the ability for a man to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual stimulation.

How to Take It

Warnings & Precautions

  • Inform your doctor about any allergies you have, especially to Sildenafil or any other drugs.
  • If you have a rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing while taking this medication, stop taking it and get medical help immediately.
  • Inform your doctor if you have any heart problems. If you experience severe dizziness, fainting, pain in your left arm, jaw or chest, or nausea while engaged in sexual activity, stop and get medical help immediately.
  • DO NOT take this drug and get medical help right away if you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours.
  • If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you take Sildenafil.
  • DO NOT use this medication if you are taking nitrate drugs; you could experience a serious drop in blood pressure, making you feel faint, which could possible induce heart attack or stroke.
  • For an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.

Dosage & Missed Dose

Viagra is available in tablet form in 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg doses. It should not be taken more than one time per day.

It is taken as needed, so there is no concern for missing a dose.

Storage

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (preferably not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
