The Psych Central Conference is being held June 3-4, 2013 at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center, located in Lowell, Mass. (about 40 minutes north of Boston).
Q. What is the purpose of the conference?
A. To gather together people interested in self-improvement, mental health, mental illness, mindfulness, psychology, personality and other self-help topics in a face-to-face setting. We hope to extend the work we do on Psych Central into people’s lives more directly.
This is also a great opportunity to meet some of the folks who help make this a great online resource.
The conference is primarily intended for laypeople, not professionals. However, professionals are welcomed to attend as well.
Q. What’s the cost of the conference?
A. $128 for early-bird registration and $168 after March 1, 2013. You can register here. Space is limited.
Q. What’s included in my registration fee?
A. Your conference registration fee includes access to all the workshops, talks and sessions held throughout the 2-day conference. In addition, a free continental breakfast, coffee, tea, juice, water, two snack breaks, and a lunch is provided each day for each participant. Your fee also covers the costs of the meeting rooms, AV, and related conference expenses.
As a special bonus, you will also receive a free commemorative Psych Central t-shirt and pen!
Q. How many people are coming?
A. We can’t say for sure, since this is our first conference! But we plan on having 200 attendees, including presenters, at the conference.
Q. Where is it being held?
A. The conference is being held in Lowell, MA, about 40 minutes north of Boston, at the University of Massachusetts – Lowell (UMass Lowell) campus. We chose this location for a number of reasons — its close proximity to Boston, for instance, without incurring Boston-city prices (which would have doubled the conference fees). Our focus was in offering a reasonably-priced conference in a setting that is conducive to learning and socializing.
Q. When is the conference?
A. The conference will be held on Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Registration and check-ins will be open on Monday morning.
Q. Where can I stay overnight?
A. We have reserved a block of rooms at $99/night for the conference. Learn more here and book a room.

A. Yes, we’re working on providing CEs for some select workshops. Check back here for details in early February.
Q. Something came up and I can’t attend. Do you offer refunds?
A. Yes, we do! If you change your mind, you will receive a 100% refund if you cancel before May 1, 2013. If you cancel your registration from May 1 to May 14, 2013, you will receive a 75% refund, and if you cancel after May 14, 2013 until June 2, 2013, you will receive a 50% refund.
No refunds will be given after June 2, 2013.
If for some reason we need to cancel the conference, you will receive a 100% refund.
Q. Are scholarships available?
A. An extremely limited number of financial hardship scholarships are available that will waive the cost of the admission ticket to the conference. You can apply here for such a scholarship.
Q. I’m interested in being an exhibitor or sponsor, what can you do for me?
A. We have two flavors of sponsorship: Basic Sponsor Package and the Founding Sponsor Package. The primary difference between the two that as a Founding Sponsor, you will get 2 additional free tickets to the event as well as a 10′x10′ booth space in our exhibit area.
Just register as normal and you’ll see those options available to you on the registration page. The deadline for sponsorships is May 6, 2013.

Q. Are presenters compensated for their time or travel expenses?
A. Presenters will receive a free general admission ticket to the conference. No other compensation is offered.
Q. When should I make my travel arrangements?
A. Since this is our first conference, we have to decide whether we will go ahead with it or if we need to cancel it due to lack of interest. We will make that decision on March 1, 2013, so we encourage you to wait until after that date to make travel arrangements.
If we decide to cancel the conference, all registration and sponsorship fees will be refunded 100%.
