Weekly Mental Health Chats

by John M. Grohol, Psy.D.

Psych Central hosts a number of weekly support chats and has been doing so since 1995.

To get to any of our chats, jump over to our support forums, login, then choose the chat link that appears on in the top forum navigation menu. (If you're not registered, you can do so for free right now. You have to be logged in to use our chat rooms.)

Need to convert the below U.S. Eastern Standard Times into your time zone? Use this time zone converter to do so.

Tuesday Nights

9:00pm ET
General Q&A on General Mental Health and Relationship Issues

Hosted by Dr. John Grohol every Tuesday night from 9:00 pm ET - 10:00pm ET (6:00pm PT - 7:00pm PT). This chat is on general mental health and relationship issues and topics and is led by DocJohn. Questions answered in the order received. Please read the Q&A Chat Rules before participating.

10:00pm ET
Peer Recovery Chat

This chat is hosted by community team member, Raynaadi, and is a general chat about recovery, not a specific 12-step meeting. It is hosted every Tuesday at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT) in a private chat room (immediately following DocJohn's chat). Look for the room in the Rooms tab after you enter chat.

Thursday Afternoons

3:00pm ET
General Q&A on General Mental Health and Relationship Issues

Hosted by Dr. John Grohol every Thursday afternoon from 3:00 pm ET - 4:00pm ET (Noon PT; 7:00pm UTC/GMT; 8:00pm London time)). This chat is on general mental health and relationship issues and topics and is led by DocJohn. Questions answered in the order received. Please read the Q&A Chat Rules before participating.

Q&A Chat Rules for DocJohn's Chats

  • Please read the disclaimer and terms of use before participating in any of Dr. Grohol's online chats. (The lawyers made me do this!)
  • Chats are informal and centered around general mental health and relationship questions. Dr. Grohol regrets he cannot make specific treatment recommendations for any problems presented, nor can he diagnose a problem online.
  • Questions are answered in the order received. If the chat is busy, you are requested to limit yourself to 2 or 3 questions.
  • If you find Dr. Grohol hasn't answered your question after about 10 or 15 minutes, please ask it again. Sometimes questions go by more quickly than he can see and respond to them (especially if the chat is busy).
  • Since Dr. Grohol is not a medical doctor, he prefers not to answer questions about medications, but can refer you to the online reference guide to medications about common side effects, indications, etc.
  • Always check with your own doctor or therapist before making any changes in your treatment regimen.
  • Private messages to Dr. Grohol are strongly discouraged, since they take away from the public chat (which is the point of the chat in the first place!).
