So this is it folks — 15 years of providing mental health information and resources online. Can you believe it!?? This was pre-Google. Pre-WebMD. Even before the NIMH. The web was brand new and I thought it might be helpful to move my reviews of great online resources onto the web (these indexes I had been doing since 1992 online).

What better place than to put all of this information in one place, on a website? And symptom lists of common mental disorders would be helpful to people too, since folks were always asking, “Are these symptoms of depression?” “What are the symptoms of bipolar disorder?” and so on.

Just for fun, here’s what that first version of Psych Central looked like…

  1. Happy Birthday John and PsychCentral! You can be proud of a terrific, meaningful achievment.

  2. Happy Birthday Psych Central!

Thanks for being a great resource on mental health issues John, I point a lot of people your way because there’s a lot of value on your site.

Your site has made a big impact in the world of mental health.

Also appreciate Zoey, your new ADHD blogger http://blogs.psychcentral.com/adhd-zoe/

    Keep up the good work!

  3. You’ve provided a wonderful service to the world wide community, Doc John. I, and I know many, many others, are extremely grateful for your contributions in the area of mental health education. Of course this education also leads to the erosion of stigma surrounding mental illness, too. So, we have that to be thankful for also.

Congratulations on a job well done!
We are deeply indebted to you…

    Happy Birthday, PsychCentral!
May you experience many, many more birthdays!
And may they all be as fruitful as the first fifteen have been!

    Peace!

  4. Congratulations, John! I may be a relative newcomer to Psych Central, but I’m proud to be a part of the team (as blog author of ADHD from A to Zoë). My only problem is I never have enough time to read everything I want to read on the site! Thanks again for the opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, this amazing resource. May we grow together over the next 15!

  5. Happy 15 years! Thank you for creating Psych Central, Dr. Grohol! Some articles help me to grow and others help me to learn about other diagnoses. They motivate me to change my negative thoughts into positive when I am depressed. I have been in therapy for many years. I continue to be interested about mental illness. At first, I tried to find “the cure” and then I learned to accept it. It’s nice to come here when others want to keep mental illness in the family a secret and I don’t have to here.

  6. Congrats!!!!!!!! t
