We long-term S. Austinites call it “South by So What”. I desire neither to schmooze with mobs of hanger-on hopefuls that play lousy music nor to be exposed to swarms of the predatory, self-aggrandizing posers that comb the conference passing themselves off as “talent-spotters” or record-label executives. Yawn.
It wasn’t even a very good idea when it started- now it runs on its own self-generating methane. As far as “interactive”- well, you can always find them trying to drum up enthusiasm by using the last decade’s cliches. There’s nothing there – and matters have reached the point when only journalists and product/gadget hypers think it’s cool. To have one of their wristbands or pendants just means you have been ripped off by commercialized hype. Here, it just marks you as a sucker or poser.
