That is, of course, the argument against the disease model overall. “Science” likes to draw lines of distinction such as “sick” people versus “healthy” people. But we know that this does not
reflect the truth, particularly in the mental health arena.
Who is without bias? And why not be brave enough to recognize that? Why should working with
people in therapy, helping them get a better handle on their relationship to all of the elements
of their life be contingent on the “patients” agreeing to be “sick” in order to receive care?
We are all human, we all have bias, and we can all benefit from working on this stuff with a caring
professional.
