The first sentence of this article really resonated with me, as so many of my clients suffer with feelings of failure for grappling with depression. The ‘black hole’ can suck even the most ‘successful’ people in as all people must live a life that is complex, contradictory, and sometimes downright challenging and painful. you are 100% right, a confident and successful person might become depressed if he was dethroned was the less confident might accept it believing that life is unfair
I find this article pretty offensive. In modern society, we are encouraged to be mega consumers, to step on other people to get ahead, and to be greedy as all hell. To define someone that lives their life this way as successful (which is exactly what we do) and go on to imply that someone who doesn’t share this crazy material ambition is somehow weak, poor, and unsuccessful…thats nuts. Its the viewpoint of someone who is trying to make themselves out to be important and has to belitte others in order to do it, Albeit in a subtle and condescending way.
