i’ve walked across the Golden Gate Bridge and i was stricken with how easy it would be to jump…….it’s about time they get with it and put up a barrier…..
Dr. Grohol, Glad to see this is getting posted. I have followed a few other of your articles regarding this specific issue – always informative and interesting. 1970 may have been the beginning of the most recent push for barriers but there was an article in the Reno Gazette in 1937 (October) that noted the bridge district was considering a suicide barrier following the 2nd confirmed suicide. The first actual suicide was less than 8 weeks after the bridge opened in May. This was before the death of Harold Wobber, who died in August of 1937 and is acknowledge as the first suiicde only because it was witnessed.
