What Parents Need to Know About Medication for ADHDADHD medications turn kids into compliant zombies.”

“They’re only prescribed to simplify a parent’s job.”

“They boost the risk for drug abuse.”

“They change kids’ personalities.”

These are just some of the many myths about treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with medication. And these misconceptions no doubt leave parents confused and overwhelmed about the best ways to treat their child’s disorder.

“Medications aren’t a cure-all but they can be very helpful,” according to Mark Bertin, MD, a board-certified developmental behavioral pediatrician and author of The Family ADHD Solution.

  1. We must listen to the child, says a Norwegian researcher. http://eng.kilden.forskningsradet.no/c52778/nyhet/vis.html?tid=82136

  2. I’m wondering if you’ve ever come across a child that has been taking Ritalin? I’m wondering if you’ve ever read the literature that very clearly indicates that use of Ritalin, Adderall and other drugs prescribed for ADHD do increase the risk of abuse? This article is an insult to every parent who has ever been advised (by a teacher, no doubt) that their child is ADHD. It’s an insult to every child who has ever complained of the side effects. It’s an insult to any educated individual who actually does research on this subject. I’m saddened and appalled that someone in the medical field would be so careless and insensitive to give advice that is so clearly biased so freely and without thought to the consequences.

    • I agree any of those kids thatbtook those pills come out messed up but the parents say that is not their fault, but one day hell is awaiting thos drug pushers ans the parents that fall into this trap can gain cursea that end them up in eternal death for they had mercy for only their selves. No real concern for the child just their own peace of mind. I be laughing at the parents but crying for their children because moat never come to a real relationship with god.

  3. Nice article! Balanced, sensible, and practical.

    • It is so easy to drug your child and never admit their own mistakes. They cause long term damage. Come to God and start praying the kids you are pretending ate yours to control or to drug up like a slave. Skills not pills love not drugs. Most people who are so quick to judge their kids keep, tabs on every mistake like they themselves are perfect. That is where being a man of god comes in I have faith and prayer you continue to destroy little brains with these powerful drugs instead of dealing with the real problems at hand just dope them up and create a life time
problem. If it is the easy way, then its prob wrong
