Thanks Dr. Grohol. I look forward to the day when the necessity of mental/emotional health is emphasized in our educational system. The consequences of ignoring our inner world can be just as, if not more, destructive as smoking, drinking, drugs, etc.
I posted a status on facebook reminding everyone that it is world mental health day, and announcing my diagnosis to those who read my feed. I encouraged my friends to be thoughtful about the words they say, like saying someone is bipolar or schizophrenic in an off hand manner. I also did it so that friends would know that it is okay to need help with how they are feeling. My post had the most likes of anything I have ever posted, and the comments I received were encouraging and loving and beautiful.
