Midweek Mental Greening

How’s this for getting out of the stuffy confines of a therapist’s office and out into the fresh air and exhilaration the outdoors and exercise offers?

According to WickedLocal.com, former tennis pro and current therapist Felix Treitler has combined his two passions – …

  1. I think it’s a neat idea, but…
being as short of breath as I tend to be while exercise… it would be a bit hard to talk to my therapist then ;)

I’d try it though. sounds interesting.

    • Hi Nadine, I was just reviewing this article to put on my new website. If you have anymore feedback to make this more “practical” for people, it would be really helpful. In exchange, if you wanted to try it, I’d be willing to do that complimentary for your help. Everyone likes the idea, but I’m having trouble “packaging it” so that it might really catch on. Thank you for reading and commenting! Felix

  2. i think it is a very good idea…sport itself is a good therapist for me :) when i need some time just for me and to be away from people i go running ;)

i think this is better than just sit in a room and talk, it is more relaxed:)

  3. @ Nadine – LOL, that’d probably be me too – “short of breath.” I bet it (especially the tennis) would be great for getting anger and frustrations out though, haha.

@ Lara – I like the idea of the more relaxed environment, too. I bet it puts many of his clients more at ease.

    • Hi Alicia, just re-read your articles and remembered how much I liked them. I’ve made the transition to full time Private Practice so I’d like to use the articles again to help promote my practice. People still seemed used to the traditional idea of talk therapy, so I’ve had to go where the clients are. Plus, in New England, it’s very cold now, so “Activities” are not what they are thinking of. Maybe I need to open an office in California!

Anyway, I’m grateful to you and I wonder if you have some ideas for marketing a Private Therapy Practice in general. My MSW did not prepare me to be a small business owner. I’d also be happy to promote anything for you. I do host a local Cable show here in Cambridge. Thanks again, Felix

  4. I used sports (tennis, xc skiing, and canoe racing) as one method of therapy to get through a heart breaking divorce. I also used talk therapy, along with medication. Yes,I was really that bad off. (divorce was 13 years ago) I am certain that the sports pulled me through the roughest part. I have grown, learned forgiveness, accepted responsibility for my part…etc.

Anyway, I was actually googling this type of therapy as a validation for my sports-in-theraphy idea. I have a particular young friend who is going through a very rough patch. I can not seem to get through to her that she needs to see a professional. (I am not a professional) She might get help if she connects therapy to sports. Any suggestions???
