Kirby Revelus had been released from prison [for gun charges] two months before the murders. He was probably taking antidepressants, like most inmates are taking, and then was in withdrawal [which can last for many months] when he was released from prison. The inmates being released from prison are much more violent and dangerous than in former days.
The Physicians Desk Reference states that SSRI antidepressants and all antidepressants can cause mania, psychosis, abnormal thinking, paranoia, hostility, etc. These side effects can also appear during withdrawal. Also, these adverse reactions are not listed as Rare but are listed as either Frequent or Infrequent.
