IN CONNECTION WITH 2011 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY AND WEEK
The departmentof Psychiatry Government medical college, Thiruvananthapuram Kerala, India observed the week with the programmes Mental Health exhibition, Medical camp, film and documentary screening.
department selected a slum area were the social environment is too adverse and people are more susceptable for mental illness of various conditions. it is undertaken by the Psycho Social Intervention Unit under the head of Dr.Anil Prabhakaran MD professor of Psychiatry and Social Scientist E.Nazeer.MA,MSc,PGDHPE. The mental health day observation culminated to a follow up programme in the name of VIBHAVANAM means Hopeful planning. The Corporation mayor of Thiruvananthapuram inauguarated the special ceremony. The State Womens commission Chair person Justice D.Sree Devi delivered the mental health message and lit the lamp for mental health Alert (Gagratha deepam) In more than 1000 houses the lamp were lit by the people as the symbol of alert on mental Health. the follow up programmes will extended up to next one year.
