  3. This article truly hits home with me! I went to grad school on the opposite end of the country where I didn’t identify with the local culture or atmosphere of the university. Even after I made a few close, terrific friends, it was still a period of loneliness, insecurity and uncertainty. My friends and family at home didn’t understand the stresses of grad school life, and couldn’t identify with me. What the article describes is something I’ve observed in other grad students – and I think it goes largely unspoken.

    I’m happy to say when all was said and done, I grew tremendously and learned a lot about myself during graduate school. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing!
