Child Protective Services IneffectiveHow effective is your local child protective services department? You know, that agency which is charged in protecting the health and well-being of children in your community.

Child protective services are not very effective at all, at least when it comes to specific risk factors that could improve a child’s well-being and mental health.

In a nationwide study that examined children in 595 families over a period of 9 years, researchers discovered that in the households where child abuse was substantiated by evidence, risk factors remained unchanged during followup interviews with the families.

  1. Just think of how much more effective CPS would be if they weren’t following up on petty claims made after a change in primary parent per a judge and investigating such while ignoring requests to consult the child’s counselor AND while custody hearing is not closed. Disgruntled parents and family members ABUSE the system and while one parent does the right thing by going to the judge with evidence, the other uses tax payer money to try and get an inch of favor back in their direction.

Did they bother to consider what it does to the child to have them pulled out of class multiple times to be interviewed? How many times will this go on – ’til the child breaks and says what they have been coached to say or what they think they are to be saying?

  2. i know cps is all about money and power they take kids away from family and dont return then that had not abuse are neglect them but yet they returne they to to family who do abuse and neglect them and big part of them round up die the took my oldest granddaughter away and they say if we take parent class we get her back man what a lie cps is all scew up

  3. I strongly agree. So what can be done? What can we as citizens do?

  4. Wow, I just wrote a paper for English class about this very subject. It is very disheartening when a child(ren) are victims of child abuse and neglect, and nothing gets done by CPS to save them. This is because of government not funding for the safety of children, even though they have the money to do so. If the release the money, then better programs to help children and their families but, until that happens the unfortunate will happen to children.

I also think that CPS uses to many excuses not to do their jobs. One being, “We have to discuss this to see if it warrants an investigation” or “The child has to tell us who hurt them before anything can be done”. Really!? I’m wondering if they ever thought about children being too scared to say anything. This just adds to why CPS are useless, and it’s like,”trying to find a needle in a haystack!” This just goes to show that children are not protected by CPS.

    Not Fond of CPS

  5. CPS continues to violate civil rights without being held accountable. Please read my blog for my story http://trueandunjust.blogspot.com/ I just decided to put it all out there so there will be lots of updates!
