Lauren Spiro has spent decades working to shift the mental health system toward a paradigm of being trauma-sensitive and socially inclusive. She is a psychiatric survivor, having been labeled and institutionalized as a teenager. She cofounded two mental health nonprofit organizations and currently serves as the director of the National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery. She cofounded Emotional CPR. She is an artist who is awakening to the power of creative expression as a tool to transform consciousness. She has an M.A. in Clinical/Community Psychology and will soon publish her memoir.
