Hi, wannie,

Thank you for your comment. I want to understand and perhaps you can help me: Why is using homosexuality as an example of how the DSM is in part a product of its time a cause for concern? In what ways do you think the "Bible" reference can be taken both ways? I used the Bible analogy because it is a favorite of the media. Just Google DSM + Bible and see what pops up. I completely agree with you that mental health professionals of all disciplines should try their best to be help all, including those who do not hold our particular beliefs.

I'm concerned that Elvira Aletta Ph.d is involving her religious beliefs within her field. Using homosexuality as the main issue to start with plus her mentioning God frequently on her own website etc is cause for concern. It is not the " Bible " can be taken both ways .
We as psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, social workers and those of us whom have doctorate degrees can have discussions about the DSM V. Let's not bring our prejudices and religious beliefs into the helping of the mentally ill.

The DSM 5 is example A of the rampant corruption and lack of collegiality that defines the leadership of the APA these past 15 years. Personally, I think the only difference between the hierarchy of the APA and what is going on in Syria, is the chemical assault on the population is insidious here, while in Syria it could be flagrantly potential brutal horror.

Yeah, that is a harsh analogy. Glad I got your attention. Think about this, it is being postulated by the DSM 5 Task Force leader, Dr Kupfer, to produce a version of DSM 5 for non psychiatric providers like PCPs and NPs. What do you think these non mental health care providers will do with this kind of instruction manual?

Look up Suicidal Behavioral Disorder and talk amongst yourselves as a start.
