For a lot of people, difficulty means giving up. Challenge means it’s time to quit. The slightest obstacle is enough reason to pack it up and leave. As someone who admits to being a serial quitter in the past, even I don’t agree with those statements. Just because things get hard doesn’t mean it’s time to throw in the towel. On the contrary, struggle to me signifies opportunity. And by the way, I’m not a masochist.
Fortunately for me, I learned that life is in constant change. Fear, discomfort, even hardship, ebbs and flows. What felt like the end of the world on Sunday seems like mere peanuts on Friday. It’s the kind of thing I wished my teenage self knew. Things do get better. You won’t feel like a dork forever. And anyway, when you get older, being dorky is kind of cool! I’ve learned that it doesn’t even take much work to get through it. Often all you need is time to see it through.
Of course being on the brink of the unknown doesn’t always feel like lying on the beach sipping a mai tai. But it does get easier. As I’ve learned from reading our posts below, sometimes you need help to change your perspective, to be encouraged to keep going and to feel like all your work is worth it.
