I think one of the greatest self-inflicted suffering comes from comparing our own lives to the one we think we should be living. Instead of focusing on accepting who we are in this moment, it’s easy to get sucked into what everyone else is doing and how much better they are at doing it. It’s a lot easier, for example, to focus on the presents you can’t afford or the job/relationship you don’t have. But tough times also give us an opportunity. It challenge us to be and do better.

If you’re going through a personal struggle right now, remember to take care of yourself, find people (therapists/friends/family) to support you, find peace and solace in your religion or spirituality and discover something hopeful in your life, no matter how small, to help lift you up.

I asked our Facebook friends what they do during the most difficult times in their life and their answers were inspiring. Although I can’t post every single tip here, they were all genuinely helpful and wise. You can read the rest of them here:
