Best of Our Blogs

April showers bring May flowers. And this past week it’s been raining enough to grow a whole football field of them. But a follower on Twitter yesterday got me thinking about another meaning behind this popular children’s rhyme. Maybe it’s the storm inside that’s really stealing our energy and attention. It’s all the work and heartache we’re going through now that will inevitably become our own rainbow, our own future field of flowers. So this post is dedicated to you, all of you who work so hard on themselves, transforming your inner and outer lives, and working through the endless days of rain for the hope of one day experiencing the reward and joy of your own flower filled inner garden. I hope you’ll enjoy this week’s round-up of intriguing, life-changing and insightful posts on me!

5 Quotes that Can Change Your Life!

(Mindfulness & Psychotherapy) – Speaking of life changing posts, check out this week’s post on the Mindfulness & Psychotherapy blog, which beautifully intermixes popular and powerful quotes (e.g. “You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.” - Albert Einstein) with a 5-step mindfulness practice. It’s pretty amazing that in less than 3 minutes, you can begin to experience a deep sense of connection and inner reflection, which may be the push you need to change your life.

Giving and Getting Advice

(Anxiety and OCD Exposed) – Lucy may have doled out advice for a nickel at her “Psychiatric Help” booth in Peanuts, but giving advice may not always be the best thing. If you’re clueless about what to say when a friend is in need, read this. You may be surprised to learn that even a psychologist doesn’t advise giving them out freely.

Mental Health Court: What is it?

(Forensic Focus) – You’ve heard of drug courts (courts addressing drug abuse offenders), but mental health court? Yes, they do exist. Get the breakdown in Part I of a multi-part series, an intriguing read about what a mental health court is, and find out how many there are in the U.S., when the first court opened, and what differentiates them from typical criminal courts.

Looking at Friends on Facebook Increases Pleasantness

(World of Psychology) – Many people believe social networking sites like Facebook are a waste of time. But if you’re a fan of Facebook, you’ll be happy to read this post. This World of Psychology post goes into the details of a new study which suggests that looking through friends’ updates and photos on the site actually increases pleasantness. Maybe social networking is worth your time after all!

Celebrate the Global Month of Hope for Depression

(ADHD in Focus) – Did you know April is the Global Month of Hope for depression? Don’t worry I’m learning a lot too this week! Read this post to find out more about the International Foundation for Research and Education’s (a.k.a. iFred) first ever celebration and there’s even a color (yellow) and symbol (sunflower) for this important cause.
