My child is 4 yrs old and she keeps on getting things from my mom's and sister's rooms (since we live under one roof) and hiding it with her toys. I reprimanded her a lot of times but she just keeps on doing it. I was worried that my kid might be a kleptomaniac and thank God I read about this article. Although I'm not sure on how to correct that behaviour.

This article was a little reassuring as I wonder if my 6 yr old is a klepto. For months she has been taking things from everyone in the family & her grandparents when she has sleepovers. The grandparents have learned to do a bag check before she leaves their home. One time my daughter dragged her bag because it was so heavy! If it was just her brother's gum, I could shrug that off. But thinking of everyone she's taken from & today when she apologized, she explained she can't help herself, her body makes her do it.
I just want to know the best way to correct & discipline this behavior. She has always willingly apologized, she seems sincere, just not remorseful. And thus her swiping continues.

Dealing w/ a 9 yr old daughter (almost 10) who has taken earrings from a friend, make-up from one of our overnight adult visitors, and a few things from me (mom) that she probably shouldn't have. She lies when confronted but then tells the truth. She knows the difference between right and wrong.......do I have a klepto on my hands? I'm so concerned!
