I plan on becoming a youth advocate and later a high school counselor with my degree. I am 26 years old, and have been a writer most of my life. I believe the work that I do will help immensely. If you want a community to thrive, you must make sure the next generation is well taken care of. This is something about the mental health profession that has been proven over and over. In this day and age of so much technology increasing at such high rates, it is very easy to get caught up in the external and not listen to your inner voice. I am a current Human Services student. Coming out of a long period of armed conflict,mental health illness, especially among young people is of common place in our streets and communities, but are rarely noticed by the local media perhaps because of the lack of training in the area. Please consider me the first Liberian applicant for your 2009/2010 fellowships for mental health journalism.
