Happy Independence Day

By John M Grohol PsyD

Happy Independence DayWe’re celebrating our Independence Day here in the U.S. today, so I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe day of celebration. We’re celebrating our 233rd birthday today, but please don’t call us old (even though we’re technically older than many modern European countries). We’re just “mature.”

It’s a great day to sit outside (weather permitting here in New England, where summer has gotten off to a decidedly soggy start), fire up the barbecue, and share good times with family and friends. On behalf of everyone here at Psych Central, here’s wishing your July 4th be a happy and joyous occasion (free of any family arguments or strife). Enjoy!

AC is running, ceiling fan overhead, Wimbledon on the tube? A great day. Happy 4th to you too (send some of those mild temps down to Texas, please!)

Happy 4th All,
Here are a few facts that you may find interesting. Both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams who were on the committee to write the Declaration of Independence in 1776, died on July 4, 1826. Jefferson had been in a coma for two days. Adams woke that morning feeling fine and joined the day’s celebrations but by evening fell ill and died. Kind of sends a chill up your spine doesn’t it?

It is a shame that our country no longer follows the Constitution. Today is a sad day. There is nothing to celebrate as Americans turn their back on the country that at one time was free.
