I am a single mom who is a teacher in a state where major lay-offs will occur at the end of the year.  So what happens when my son is ill?  They call me to come and get her or I have to call out of work the next day -- if I am lucky,  because right now the district is heavily discouraging the use of subs.  The kicker?  I have *plenty* of days to use, days I will actually lose and not be compensated for if I am laid off at the end of the year.

It seems like a no-win situation.</description>
