I took a Zyprexa and Depakote combo for years. I gained 80 pounds. High blood pressure, very heavy and felt like I was suffocating from the extra weight. The Psychiatrists always said "just exercise more, watch your diet" and never acknowledged or minimized that the two drugs caused extreme weight gain. I also caught a lot of flack over being so heavy and made fun of by my family. It's only been in recent years that they have acknowledged metabolic syndrome, or that the drug causes severe weight gain, diabetes, heart problems, movement problems, etc. What irritates me is the way these new drugs were pushed on us by Dr's, without proper warning of the full, deadly consequences.
It irritates me the Feds & states are getting millions in settlements, but those of us who were essentially lab rats won't see a dime, but will have our life expectancy reduced by as much as 25 years. Thanks a lot Zyprexa! I'm much more cautious as a mental health consumer & refuse new drugs they tout, until they become generic & I've seen the real damage they cause. I saw so many clients at our local mental health center who were always thin, suddenly weigh 50-150 pounds more when Zyprexa & depakote were introduced. These were the days when mental health staff never weighed us or took our waist measurements. I have seen so many deaths due to these second generation anti-psychotic drugs. Makes me sick that Pharmacy companies make so much money on our disease.

My wife had taken zyprexa for 13 years. In the last year she started getting a diabetic reaction and got a movement disorder. The movement has been so bad that her eyes closed, her mouth squared, her left arm twiched and her neck turned to the left so hard that she at times can not look ahead and is in great pain. She could hardly walk.
Over the last 4 years she has frequented the hospital over 50 times; due, mostly to the fact that neurology people do not want her on any offending agents. Thus to try and self heal. She has been subject to drugs that have put her out of her mind and created 5 (2 week) or long stays in the mental wards. She has regained her ability to use most of her senses except her neck still prevent her from driving, working or carry on a normal life. She is in bed alot just to overt the pain. We tried now that she was more able to negotiate a law suit to contact a attorney today. We were told that the statute was only 3 years. This is not right as she has lost her ability to work and we lost our home, buisness etc... Is there anyone who can work to help her on a suit that will cercumvent the time and do what is right?

Im 20, I shouldn’t have high blood pressure, but I do from a drug that Eli Lilly produced. I took this drug years ago when I was a minor and had no say in the situation what so ever, it would have been nice to at least get a thank you card from the company (or at least the scholarship I applied for from them)they gave me high blood pressure instead, so i may be stuck taking another one of their meds.

I have read that the lawsuit with eli lilly on zyprexa has been settled, but the patients has not been paid. I signed my paper in 2008, thinking I am getting paid, but as of 2010/12/26 I am still wating for my money. Can you give any advise on when eli lilly say to pay us payments. My law is in Texas, they tells me that Eil Lilly will tell them when to pay me.

I took zyprexa for several years from around 2000-2003 for schizotypal personality disorder. It not only did almost nothing for that, I gained over 80 lbs. and developed Type II diabetes at the age of 26, weighing around 290 lbs. I suppose it could have been worse, since I managed to shed half the weight I gained and got my blood sugar down to normal somehow. However I take approximately 14 pills a day (medication and vitamin supplements) to maintain that that I would not otherwise be taking. This disease has cost me and my family several tens of thousands of dollars, in addition to a reduced quality of life.

I would like to still get in on a lawsuit if possible but I guess at this point I will have to wait until I can get my life in general sorted out first.

I wasn a zyprexa patient for years and gained over 60 lbs that I haven't been able to take off even without the drug. Today I learned that I have diabetes. Is it too late to be a part of this class action thing? If it's not, how do I go about joining up?

I have followed every request from the attourneys about my suit about Zyprexa. I recieved a FEDEX contact and questionaire to fill and return being misled that the settlement would soon be be forthcoming. Since then--TOTAL SILENCE--Is this some type of rediculous joke. It looks good on paper-thats all- JUST PAPER
