It does not take that many steps to send a text message unless she deleted all of the previous messages before sleep. Usually the phone keeps record of the texts by person and you can just go to the persons name and hit "reply"

So even if she had an ancient cell phone here would be the steps:

Menu
Messages
(Person's Name)
Reply
Type Message
Send

I just had this happen to me. At 3:47 am I texted someone who said "ne parties?" (at 2:39 am) and I said "yeah one by grandin park".
I also texted someone else saying "Morning" at 3:47 am.
This is extremely odd because I have no memory of doing so, but when I read the text about the party I have a feeling of Deja vu. My phone was also underneath my bed instead of underneath the pillows beside me as usual. No other apps were open on my phone except bitesms.

Wow.
I'm almost 16, don't take sleeping medications or drink. But I woke up this morning and found texts sent to my boyfriend that are very unlike me..
The thing is I was the only one that could have gotten to my phone last night, no one else was here when the messages were sent.
I responded to what he was texting to me. But it's not like the typical text I would send. i.e. him:"soo." me:"soooooo....lol. what's" I could text most things with my eyes closed but I had to be able to read what he said because I replied to his "goodnight" text too. Maybe it's more of a black-out than a sleep thing? That makes more sense. But if I black out my texts rarely make sense..

Yes, I had this experience today. I missed a call since I was sleeping but I sent a text stating " I'm driving", when the person asked what it meant I had no idea and didn't remember that I actually sent that text until I checked my phone and there it was.
Weird!

I have experience this phenomena THREE TIMES ALREADY.

First, I sent out a message 'ja' to a Group of friends on my contacts list.

Second, I replied to a text message to my boyfriend. The first 2 sentences were ok, but it became gibberish on the last 3 sentences.

Third, I replied to another text message to my boyfriend. And it was not gibberish.

I didn't remember sending either of those text messages.

I do txt in my sleep. I'll have full on conversations all night long. I would have to check my Inbox and Sent Box every morning. I had normal conversations with my boyfriend about normal things. It's awesome, really.

this article is not plausable at all. Nothing in here can be considered fact. The author obviously made up these random stats. 1 in 6 teens send 10 or more texts every hour through out the night!?! what! no this does not happen. unless the people you asked had night jobs. Jessica must have had a very rare phone that it takes 11 steps to send a text! thats crazy. most phones can be set to only push 2 buttons to get to the screan where you type your text. expecially since it was her boyfriend, she could have easily gone to her inbox, he was most likly the last person she texted, so she only would have had to push reply. Teens in our generation text so much that comes very easily. I definatly think this can happen, especially if people sleep drive!

This has happened to me multiple times. One night I fell asleep while having a conversation with my friend, so my text chat was still opened.
In the morning I noticed that I had sent her a message that I didn't remember sending. It said, "Dude, I'm so happy. That monster finally jumped out of my dad's hair!" It just so happened that that was exactly what I was dreaming about that night.
I don't know for sure if I sent it while I was asleep or just slightly awake, since I used proper grammar.
