It is the long term effects of ADHD medication that will alter your life! Here is a true story about taking ADDERALL, RITALIN Or any prescribed amphetimine. When I was young I was hyper and had no attention span. My parent's Doctor suggested medication after testing me extensively. (I was like 8yrs old)Thank goodness my mother refused to give me meds at that age!!! However the whole thing went full circle when I got older and was going to work and school and both full time and I couldnt handle it. I would space out tests make mistakes at work ETC. I Will get to the point... after 10 years on the precribed medication, All of the wonderfull benefits experienced in the first two years of non dependant behavior are completely gone! Then I had a worse attention span I became anti-social and or more hyper than ever I crashed for days when I ran out early. (most of the time). I couldnt get enough of them! And Moody has a whole new meaning. It was two different personalities DR JECKYL/Mr HYDE. (and I knew it and didnt care!) I walked around grinding my teeth and wore grooves in them causing lots of dental work. It also felt like I was intollerant and impatient. Isolated and wondered how different/better my life would be without it. I lost jobs/opportunity relationships and had no social life. But I couldnt imagine how I could ever survive without it!I took it to clean house and needed it to do any chore. It took years to feel a sense of normalcy and a withdrawal that just lingered Always tired always eating. I Then quit smoking which was impossible for me on the meds. Now I can belly laugh and smile and not be afraid to meet new people. I hate when I see new people rooting to get on amphetamines!! I still crave it! Remember It was the Miracle drug for me Once too! So life altering addictive!

My son has asthma (not adhd) but recently when he was switched from Albuterol to Proventil, he told me that it was probably a good thing because Proventil didn't have the extra kick that Albuterol did. He said he used to take an extra puff of Albuterol for the pleasant side effect. Ack.
