Excellent site psychcentral.com and I am really pleased to see you have this this post.
I am crrently working in the south of france looking at property for sale, having fun in the sun and bookmarking everything that I find interesting on the net (including psychcentral.com of course !)
It has taken me literally 2 hours and 24 minutes of searching the web to find you (just kidding!) so I shall be pleased to become a regular visitor from now on :)

Thanks

Privacy is an important concern, but the point in this case is that they are looking for "reasons" for an illness is anosognosic: people with anorexia often don't understand their illness or its cause.

To look at self-reports - on the Internet or in a diary or even on the witness stand - for insight into the cause of the illness is simply wrong.

We don't ask Alzheimer patients for insight into their illness. We don't ask schizophrenia patients why they think little green men are after them.

Reasons why I never use my real name on my blog or the various forums across the net. I made a decision whether or not to make my blog overly personal and the result was even though I don't use my name any one who has treated me will know who I am but most have written me off anyway so what the hell.

Depends on how widely you use the pseudonym. Most online users are fairly lazy when it comes to such things and use the same or similar usernames and passwords across multiple social sites.

So while you feel free to blog all day long about your favorite Hollywood stars on Myspace, if you use the same or similar pseudonym on the health blog or social network, it'll be easy to connect the dots.

As long as people choose different pseudonyms for different sites (and are careful not to repeat them), that also offers another layer of privacy.
