Facing Us Contest

By Sandra Kiume

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, a great peer support organization in America, has just announced the Facing Us contest. They’re looking for people to create videos and artwork related to their experiences for a public awareness campaign. The intent:

DBSA is launching the Facing Us campaign to highlight the ‘face’ of bipolar disorder and depression and to supply tools to those ‘facing’ the challenges of living with these illnesses. There is an intentional, multi-layered meaning to the program’s title: bringing mood disorders out of the shadows; humanizing those with the illnesses; and helping those diagnosed to create a reality where they face a better future.

You can enter in three categories: a 30 second PSA contest for film students, a personal story video by people who’ve lived with a mood disorder which can be up to nine minutes long, and a 2D visual art category. First prize in each category is $1,000 and there are runner-up prizes also.

The winning creative entries will be used in promotional campaigns like e-cards, book covers, TV and homecasting video outlets. Tell your story in a creative, honest and moving way and you could help reach out to people who may be suffering, and also fight stigma among those who may simply need to be more aware of mental health issues.
