[...] As we’ve noted in the past (such as here, here, and most recently here), SSRI antidepressant medications — the most commonly prescribed psychiatric medication today — often have sexual side effects. Inability to orgasm, delayed orgasm, losing sensation in your genitals, and a lack of sex drive are all possible side effects of these common medications. [...]

Prozac did make an amazing impact on society. I think it changed how people viewed depression—just take a pill and you will get better. It is good the pharmaceutical companies keep working on new drugs—some of the newer drugs have less side effects and Prozac does not work with everybody. It is really up to the psychiatrist to completely explain all of the possible side effects of the medications. Sex is a difficult topic for clients and psychiatrists to talk about but it plays a huge role in relationships and a person’s overall wellbeing. Communication is the key.

It is to the benefit of pharmaceutical companies to introduce newer drugs that are deemed to be "better and safer" than older drugs that have gone off patent and are cheaper due to generic alterntives. Prozac was just the latest installment in an ongoing process. It is the newer drugs that are getting all the ad coverage now.

Some critics of Prozac have ulterior motives to sell you something just like the drug maker. And also present just as unbalanced a a view. Take it with a grain of salt and look at research from a variety of sources.
