Nutritional supplement consumer scams like “all natural bipolar cure” ads cause confusion over what nutritional info is reliable, but there is research supporting some nutritional treatments for the brain (in particular omega 3 fatty acids found in salmon, flax). These aren’t miraculous; omega 3 has little impact on moderate to severe mental illness and how much benefit it really has remains a question. But adding fresh fruit and a spice to a diet at best could help and at worst can’t hurt. It can also empower people to make simple and direct contributions to their mental health by optimizing diet.
