The State of Depression

By Sandra Kiume

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, a nonprofit organization offering information, support groups, advocacy, research and more, released a report called The State of Depression in America. It examines the landscape, socioeconomic impact, health care access issues, treatment and emergent recovery methods and more, focusing on a call to action. In the course of compiling the report, solutions arose, and The State of Depression recommends many sensible strategies including education, coordinated care and consumer-driven treatment. It concludes, “If implemented, the opportunities outlined in this report could help transform the state of depression in America and the entire mental health care system.”
