Regular cannabis may increase risk of stroke in young users

Regular users of cannabis could be putting themselves at risk of stroke, while they are still young, indicates a case report, published in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

Illicit drug use is known to be associated with an increased risk of stroke in young users, with heroin, cocaine, and speed (amphetamines) the most frequently implicated.

I am surprised that you failed note that the researchers have not controlled much in this study and that therefore it has little meaning outside the experience of the subject. Had the subject been a large sample across all demographic categories of theoretical importance these results are likely to have been very different. We have no indication from this study whether a fully fit and healthy person would experience a similar increase in risk of haematoma or MI, and if there is an increase in risk would it be any higher or lower than going for a one hour run? Give 100 people a ten mile run and see how this compares with the effects of cannabis. I am merely pointing out that there is a lack of rigour in the above named research, and this is important because it is a lack of rigour (combined with obvious biases) that characterises so much research into the effects of drugs. More often than not effect size is not mentioned and even the researchers are prone to the appalling lack of standards in reporting percentage increases instead of using real numbers and effect sizes. We need to know the truth from carefully controlled experiments. Anyone reporting such studies needs to summarise objectively what the report is saying. Your summary above is therefore meaningless, or worse misleading.

this is pretty misleading, although im not saying its not possible, i smoked tons of weed for 3 years straight and got nothing but bad nasal allergies (while high due to facial dehydration i.e. “cotton-mouth” lol), which lead to headaches (which i hypochondriacally mistaked for something like a stroke or something haha). you shouldnt let yourself impulsively smoke though you should seek to control your senses and thereby end the suffering you cause yourself through material sense pleasure addiction. responsible spiritual pot use can help you to realize and conceptualize this though, along with a good book like the Bhagavad Gita, Tao te Ching, or the teachings of Jesus or Buddhism. its all good stuff so smoke up but dont be an addict! no amount of drugs will ever bring you happiness.
