Recommendations of the NY State Psychological Association

Recommendations of the New York State Psychological Association

Not surprisingly, NY state’s psychological association is opposed to the licensing of other professionals to practice psychotherapy within NY state. Usually I like to support the cause of psychology, but after reading through this petition, it seems patently obvious this is just the local state’s psychology board crying foul and playing local protectionist for the profession. The more professionals — whether they are psychologists or not — who can help reach people through psychotherapy, the lesser the stigma and the greater the help ordinary folks will get. I’m sorry, but this is one petition I just could not bring myself to sign (and gee, lookee there, 99% of the signatories are psychologists!).
