The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted unanimously in favor of an amendment that would require a review of mental health services available to U.S. troops and their families.
U.S. Reps. Brian Baird, D-Vancouver, and Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., sponsored the amendment for inclusion in the fiscal year 2005 Defense Authorization Act. The act must still be passed by the U.S. Senate and be signed into law by President Bush.
The amendment would require a “comprehensive review” of mental health and counseling services available to U.S. soldiers and their families. It requires Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to submit the findings to Congress no later than 90 days after Bush signs the spending bill into law.
